Rules

Rating

This game is Rated R, MA, Over 18, or what have you. Please note that by playing, you understand that you will likely be exposed to mature themes. Think shows that appear on HBO, instead of Cable TV or even Network TV.

Please keep ALL chat channels to PG-13, including the RP channel. Excessive cursing or exceptionally violent or sexual discussions are not allowed.

If you are uncomfortable with the direction a scene is going, you can always ask for it to Fade to Black or just see yourself out. Doing so will not stop your character from receiving the IC Consequences of their actions, but it will shield the player from graphic descriptions of them. If it's a group scene, feel free to step out.

Public vs. Private Roleplay: While we are an adult Rated game, Public Roleplay should not be overtly sexual or excessively violent. Public TS is not allowed, and must be taken to a private room. The TP Rooms are always considered to be private rooms. If a scene in a public room is progressing toward either of these contents, please move the scene to an TP Room. Don't forget to lock a TP room as well.

Consent

Grimwood is a consent based game. Actions taken against another character need to be agreed upon by both parties. In a scene where character death is possible and/or a disagreement occurs, the scene must be stopped and a Staff member must be contacted. If a Staff member is connected and visible, they may be paged to request mediating a scene. If no Staff members are connected and visible, please use +request!

ICA = ICC
In-Character Actions = In-Character Consequences (ICA=ICC). When an action is taken by a character, their player must accept whatever in-character consequences result from that action, good or bad.

Metagaming
Metagaming is not allowed, under any circumstances. if you know something OOC that your character doesn't know, do not use it IC.

Powerposing
Powerposing is the act of dictating what someone else's character or an NPC played by another character will do, or things that happen to them. You describe what you do, and then they will describe what they do.

Alts

There are so many possibilities within our theme that we want players to be able to explore several of them if they would like to. However, we do have some limitations regarding alts:

You must wait 2 weeks from the approval of your previous character before submitting your next one for approval.

No player may have more than 3 characters at a time, not including temporary feature characters or Staff alts.

Alts may not share information with one another, nor take any action that may benefit one another. A player may NEVER have more than one character in any one scene at the same time, excluding Staff-run NPCs.

Please note, Staff reserves the right to request revisions in an alternative character concept or +sheet should there be too much overlap with your current character(s).

If you would like to retire a character for any reason, please contact Staff through +request. If the retirement is specifically to allow for the creation of an alt, this information must be included in the +request. If the retirement is due to another reason, Staff would like to know the reason for the retirement, but it is not required.

Staff Alts
Staff members are not just here to oversee the game, but to play it as well. All Staff members will have at least one PC, probably more. In that case though, Staff cannot approve their own characters, they cannot change their +sheet, nor can they answer +requests sent by their character. Staff cannot act as a judge in a scene they have a character in. Staff PCs are treated like every other player.

Player Run Plots

Staff welcomes, encourages, and in some cases, require players to run plots. Scenes which are simple social scenes or small skirmishes with Bandits or Raiders do not need any prior approval from Staff, but please post a log and +request that staff looks over the log so we can award XP. More involved scenes which involve long-running series of events, major battles, or which are likely to change up the political structure of a faction, will require prior approval.

To get that approval, the person who wishes to run the event must submit a +request with the following information, preferably separated as below:

1) A brief description of the plot.
2) Details of the enemy to be faced (if there is an enemy).
3) Goals of the enemy (if there is an enemy).
4) Complications that will come up during the plot.
5) Maximum number of players wanted.
6) Intended type of participants (Traders, Military, Cross faction, ect.)
7) Three possible outcomes, including at least one where the PCs lose.

Idle

We purge idle characters every sixty (60) days. If you are going on vacation, being called up to active duty, or other RL events that may impede your ability to connect to the game, please notify Staff and place a vacation notice on the OOC: General +BBOARD. Characters that have been purged cannot be restored to their original +sheet. If you find that your character has been purged and you wish to bring them back into play, they will need to go through the Character Generation process once more. It is highly encouraged you keep records of your characters' backgrounds in case of such an instance.

Idle characters will have their WIKI pages tagged and categorized as IDLE. Their played-bys will be freed up and their icons will be replaced with blanks. This is solely to allow new characters to select these played-bys.

If a character in a position of power (Lawman, Faction Leader, Faction Officer, Independent Group Leader, Important Roster Character) is idle for 30 says without letting staff know that they will be idle, the character will be opened for application again. These characters will be placed back on the Wanted list and +Roster.

Harassment

There are various forms of harassment, none of which are tolerated on Grimwood. If someone asks you to stop doing something that they are uncomfortable with whether it be continuing a particular topic on the Public Channels, paging them in a private conversations, sending them +mails, or the like you are obligated to cease that action.

If a situation requires intervention or mediation, please contact Staff and they will handle the situation accordingly. Staff take Harassment complaints very seriously, and we please ask that players be mature about such complaints and don't lodge a complaint just because you don't like another player. Staff are here to run a fun game, not babysit.

Rooms

Staff will build rooms for each character upon request. This may be a place of business, a private residence, or something else entirely (with the approval of Staff). Player rooms must be +requested, and the +request must include descriptions of the rooms and where the player would like them to be connected to the grid. Descriptions may be slightly altered for grammar or theme by Staff. If you have a Request for a room that you think should be on the grid, but will not be a room for your character, please, send in a +request and staff will review it.

Skills

Players may freely use their character's hard earned XP to raise skills to 9 (with the exception of Gunslinger, see below.) A player must send in a +request before raising one of their character's skills to 10, 11, or 12. That +request must include the skill being raised, what it is being raised to, and the justification for that raising. The XP may not be spent and the skill may not be raised until the +request has been approved.

Raising Gunslinger: Any time a player wishes to raise their character's Gunslinger skill to 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12, they must send in a +request as above. This also limits a Character to a 6 in gunslinger in character generation. Indian type characters cannot purchase Gunslinger in character generation.

Restrictions

There are a few Restricted Concepts and Banned Concepts.

Restricted Concepts that need a strong app:

  • High Federal Government Officials
  • Outlaws
  • Leader types

Banned Concepts are:

  • Time Travelers, just no.
  • Real Historical Characters.
  • A character that doesn't fit a Western style Theme.

Disclaimer

Grimwood is a non-profit game. We do not ask for payment or donations. Grimwood has an original theme that might pay homage to a few fiction based characters or media, this is not intended as copyright, but homage and sometimes satire. Grimwood uses the FS3 system developed by Faraday at www.Ariesmush.com. All characters are considered works of their creator/player. All Roster Characters are considered Property of the MUSH. In the case of an important Character's player becoming Idle, Grimwood MUSH Staff reserves the right to take creative liberties of that character. While we have an understanding staff, all players must read the news topics listed in +news Rules, ignorance of the rules is no excuse for breaking them.
